Grey-fronted Quail-Dove
Grijskopkwartelduif
Soplillar, Playa Larga area, Cuba
10 January 2016

The Grey-fronted Quail-Dove is considered endemic to Cuba, where it is generally a rare and local resident, although the species is still comparatively numerous in parts of the west of the island, especially on the Zapata Peninsula. It was previously considered a subspecies of the grey-headed quail-dove, which is now split into the grey-fronted quail-dove, endemic to Cuba, and the white-fronted quail-dove, endemic to Hispaniola.
Key West Quail-Dove
Cubaanse Kwartelduif
Playa Larga area, Cuba
11 January 2016

Although it was named for Key West, Florida, where it was discovered and where it probably nested in the 1800s, today this bird is only a rare visitor to Florida from islands in the Caribbean. A chunky, rotund bird, it walks quietly on the ground under very dense cover, and is often difficult to find even where it is common.
Ruddy Quail-Dove
Bergkwartelduif
Soroa, Cuba
7 January 2016

The Ruddy Quail-Dove is the most widely distributed species of Geotrygon; it occurs in the Caribbean and in Central and South America from Mexico south to Argentina.
Like other quail-doves, this species forages solitarily or in pairs for seeds and invertebrates on the ground in thick cover.

Blue-headed Quail-Dove
Blauwkopkwartelduif
La Cueva de los Peces,
Zapata National Park, Cuba
10 January 2016

The Blue-headed Quail-Dove is an endemic terrestrial dove found on the island of Cuba. This species is extremely rare and has a very small population with extremely small subpopulations, and numbers are continuing to decline. It is a resident non-migratory species and it is the only quail-dove species in Cuba that is both endemic and considered to be endangered.
Sexes are alike.

This is Eupsittula pertinax arubensis which occurs on Aruba and the northern coast of Venezuela.
